I love Jesus Christ. I love what Jesus loves. Jesus loves the church which is known in the Holy Bible as His bride and His body. Every living body must have a head. Christ is the Head of the church (Ephesians 1:22; 4:15; Colossians 1:18). The church is the glorious body of Christ. Do you love the Head of the church, the LORD Jesus Christ? Do you love the body of Christ, His church?
The church is glorious because of who Jesus Christ is and what he has done for her. However, many local churches today are not very glorious visibly when compared to what the Bible says the church is to be and to do.
I believe that God’s Word is authoritative and all-sufficient. Jesus Christ, as Head of the church, directs the church by His Word concerning what she is to believe, how she is to worship Him, and what her mission is in the world. Consequently, at Sovereign Grace Baptist, we give primary importance to preaching in our worship. In our worship, consecutive expository preaching through books of the Bible will be the regular diet for our souls at Sovereign Grace. Experiential applications from the sermon will emphasize pursuing holiness in the fear of God (2 Corinthians 7:1) and not the latest techniques for self-improvement. Also, the God who justifies sinners by grace through faith in Christ alone will be exalted in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Finally, when we worship, we want to keep worldliness out, be captivated by our magnificent triune God and have our sense of awe of Him renewed. Nothing and no one can compare to our awesome God who alone is worthy of all praise, glory, laud, and honor!
We desire to be a community of faith who take the God of the Word and the Word of God seriously. Consequently, we aspire by grace to love Christ more, love God’s people, love lost souls, and earnestly assemble regularly as God’s covenant people for worship and service (2 Corinthians 5:14-15). Christ is worthy of so much more than we can give.
Come, join us as we seek to reach San Angelo with the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the praise of the glory of His grace!
Soli Deo Gloria,
Pastor David Randall
